Gensan’s 2nd COVID case is 22-year old from Cebu

A 22-year old student is the second COVID-19 positive case in the city, according to Mayor Ronnel Rivera.

The city’s latest COVID case patient arrived on a mercy flight from Cebu City on May 31, which also brought home stranded residents from General Santos City.

“He was tested on June 2,” Mayor Rivera disclosed.

He added that the swab sample taken from the patient was brought to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) in Davao City where it was submitted for laboratory test.

Rivera however said residents in the city should not worry.

“Just maintain proper hygiene and continue to wear mask when outside. Also always observe social distancing,” the mayor appealed.

The patient is now admitted at the COVID facility of the city at the Dr. Jorge Royeca Hospital where he is waiting for his official patient case number from the Department of Health.

City health officials are assuring the residents here that all health protocols are being strictly implemented and followed and all passengers of Cebu Pacific Flight 5J251 have been accounted for and properly quarantined.

Today’s 2nd COVID positive case came more than two months after the first COVID patient was reported.

The first patient has since recovered.

However, there is still no report of locally transmitted infection.

Meanwhile, the city mayor said he remains optimistic that the newly arrived modular laboratory that arrived on Wednesday, June 3, will be operational before the end of the month.

“We are hoping to complete the accreditation from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM),” Rivera said.

The city mayor likewise revealed that the medical technologists who will handle the testing and operate the modular laboratory are now undergoing training at the SPMC in Davao City.

The local government here has lifted most of the COVID-related restrictions including barangay clustering and curfew hours.

Mayor Rivera also suspended the home quarantine passes on May 30 after the city was placed under modified general Community quarantine effected June
1.
