GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Bienvinido Limbo said he heard a loud high-pitch whistling sound before the galvanized iron sheets that served as roof to his small eatery started to fly from all over.
“I hid in the corner. I thought it was the end of me,” Manong Bien, 67, said as he related how the tornado suddenly tore apart his small carenderia shortly before in one o’clock in the morning.

The tornado toppled several electric posts and uprooted many trees as it crawled violently in different patches in the city including at SM City of Gensan leaving behind pile of liter and garbage.
In the fishing village of Bula here where the tornado started and left behind most of the damage, a section of a roof was flown away into a street. Residents are still trying to find the owner of the house who lost a section of the said roof.
Manong Bien said it was the first time he experienced the harrowing experience.
The tornado struck during the height of the rain that also brought strong winds shortly after midnight.
No one was reported injured.
The city has yet to issue statement including estimate of the damage.
