Gov. Solon holding his ground, no crossing from Davao region

Sarangani Gov. Steve Solon
GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Sarangani Gov. Steve Solon is adamant in his stand not to allow “human traffic” from Davao City and other places in the Davao Region which his province shares border with.

“Borders still close to human traffic,” he said in a text reply when asked if travellers from Davao City will be allowed to cross its border and pass through the province.

“MGCQ is still a community quarantine and LGUs may adapt what fits their LGUs to make sure their constituents are safe,” Solon explained in defending his decision.

He cited the recent 22 infections in Davao Region when interviewed on Saturday.

“So mas mahigpit ngayon,” Solon added.

He said leisure trips (laag laag) from town to towns in Sarangani are still discouraged.

The governor said the continuing restrictions are based on the still prevailing national pandemic and the country is still under quarantine.

Solon likewise cited “local autonomy to protect public health.”

He added that the agreement is based on the unanimous resolution the Regional Inter Agency Task Force (RIATF) passed on May 26.

On May 27, however, President Rodrigo Duterte placed the entire Mindanao under modified general community quarantine, which allows free travel of passenger vehicles subject to loading capacities as a continuing quarantine measure.

Solon however said his decision is as equally important as the “aggressive intervention in high transmission areas” to protect their gains against COVID cases.

Sarangani has only one confirmed COVID positive case but has already recovered.
